HAPPY SMILE
“33% of the British population are not happy with their smile.”
COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Dentistry has evolved and is no longer just a case of a filling or taking out teeth. Many people turn to cosmetic dentistry, as a way of improving their appearance.
There are variety of treatments, including Veneers, Crowns, Bridges, Inlays and Onlays, Tooth-coloured Fillings, Teeth Whitening, Dental Implants and Short-Term Orthodontics.

Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment which can lighten the natural shade of your teeth giving you a brighter whiter smile. Our dentists always carry out an assessment prior to whitening treatments to determine if whitening is suitable for you and ensuring you are dentally fit. They also take the time to discuss what’s involved, so that before you commit to treatment you are fully aware of what to expect during treatment.
The whitening treatment we offer at Aylestone House is called Zoom! Whitening by Philips (take-home teeth whitening treatments) – allowing you to whiten your smile in the comfort of your home.
By law teeth whitening treatments should only be carried out by a GDC (General Dental Council) registered Dental Professional.
Crowns and Bridges
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth to improve its strength, shape, size, and appearance. Crowns are custom made by the laboratory and when cemented into place, they fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.
Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. They span the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. You have a choice of materials and your dentist can help you decide which to use, based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations and cost. Porcelain or ceramic bridges can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays provide a hard-wearing treatment for broken or heavily-filled teeth. The onlays’ shade is matched to your existing teeth giving a natural looking restoration.
These are stronger than direct fillings and are usually made from porcelain and are bonded to your teeth using a special adhesive cement giving an excellent seal and strength. Another material that is highly recommended for inlays and onlays is gold. Our dentists will always discuss the options available and advise which would be most suitable.
Tooth-Coloured Fillings
A composite filling is a tooth-coloured plastic and glass mixture used to restore decayed teeth which is an alternative to amalgam fillings. Composites are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the colour of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth with a natural looking finish. One of the advantages of these fillings tend to require less tooth substance removal during the preparation process. Also, composite fillings bond to the natural tooth better than metal fillings, therefore they prevent further tooth fracture.
Veneers
We understand that crooked, uneven or discoloured teeth can affect your confidence. Veneers are a very thin, laboratory-made, tooth coloured piece of porcelain or composite bonded to your tooth to improve its appearance. We work closely with our laboratory technicians to achieve results which will improve your smile – sometimes even visiting the laboratories to have a shade matched to ensure the perfect colour blend and a natural finish.
To find out if you are a suitable candidate for veneers and discuss this treatment in more detail please contact for an appointment with one of our dentists.
